Where Do You Eat?

WHERE DO YOU EAT?

Following from last weeks How Do You Eat this week I would like to draw your attention to where you eat your food.  The eating environment plays a huge role in the enjoyment, satisfaction and digestion of the meal you have just eaten!

Eating:

  • Whilst on the phone;
  • At the computer;
  • At your desk;
  • Seated in front of the television, resting food on your knees;
  • In the car rushing to the next commitment; or
  • At a take away or drive through

Are all contrary to some of the core reasons why we eat

 

Sure a rushed meal is going to fill the hunger void but it does not help! This is because: 

  • The digestive process is rushed: poorly chewed foods leads to indigestion and reflux;
  • The loss of relaxation and enjoyment of the meal - which often means you are soon searching for something else to satisfy you; and 
  • Rushed choices are often poor choices - you know the feeling – waiting too long to eat and then grabbing the first thing you can find (often a take way choice)

 

Try to make sure you always take time to sit down, away from your desk, not on the phone or computer and if at all possible sit at a dining table and savour your food.  Take a leaf out of the Mediterranean's book - food is to be savoured and enjoyed, and each meal should be a dining experience!  Take at least 10 mins of for lunch- longer if you can spare it and sit at the dining table and slowly enjoy your evening meal
