Dr David Simpson

Raised in the UK, David studied medicine at Charing Cross & Westminster Medical School, University of London, graduating with his Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery in 1990.He was awarded the Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (UK) in 1997 and became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2004.

After further hospital training in surgery, medicine, emergency and anaesthetics, David travelled to Australia and worked at Nambour General Hospital in the intensive care and coronary care units.On returning to the UK he spent 3 years as a medical officer in the Royal Navy gaining training in Scuba Diving medicine and sports injuries and spent 9 months as medical officer on HMS Cornwall in the Persian Gulf.After leaving the Royal Navy he completed his vocational training in General Practice in Cornwall involving a further period in hospital training in obstetrics and gynaecology and paediatrics  and was awarded the GP Registrar’s prize 1997. David emigrated to Australia in 2004 and worked on the NSW Central Coast in Terrigal until moving back to the Sunshine Coast in early 2010.

Special Interests

David has completed further training in skin cancer medicine and passed the Certificate of Skin Cancer Medicine exam (Skin Cancer College of Australia/NZ) with a high distinction in 2006. He has a strong interest in scuba diving medicine and has completed courses with the Royal Navy and with the Hyperbaric Unit of the University of Aberdeen.Currently he is studying for his masters in sports medicine with the University of Queensland.

Hobbies/Interests

Spending time with his 3 children, running, ocean swimming, scuba diving.He is also an active Surf Life saver with Sunshine Beach SLSC
