Award for good medicine

A Maroochydore medical practice was officially recognised as the finest in Queensland at an awards ceremony last night.

Medicine on Second was named Queensland General Practice of the Year by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).

The prestigious award recognises outstanding work of general practices, high accreditation standards, facilities for patients and staff and service to the community.

RACGP Queensland faculty chair Dr Jane Smith said Medicine on Second staff took the honour for its commitment to ensuring the strong future of health services on the Sunshine Coast.

“Medicine on Second is dedicated to training the next generation of general practitioners,” she said.

“They offer a range of health services and are strongly focused on making patients comfortable with their general practice experience.”

RACGP president Dr Vasantha Preetham presented doctors from the practice with the award at the RACGP 50th Annual Scientific Convention in Sydney.

Medicine on Second has a staff of 10 full-time general practitioners, a general practice registrar, a practice manager, a nurse manager, three practice nurses, six reception staff and two admin staff. They also employ a psychologist, exercise physiologist and dietician, and a diabetic nurse educator.
