Local medical practice announced as a finalist in major business award for second year running

13 Aug 2008 8:40 PM -

It appears it will be another highly successful business year for award winning local medical practice Medicine on Second who has recently been announced as a finalist in the Small Business Champion Awards in the Professional Services category for the second year running.

“We thought last year was great winning the RACGP Queensland Practice of the Year and being named a finalist in a number of other business awards but we're thrilled to have been named as a finalist in this prestigious award once again,” says Medicine on Second's practice manager Nicky Jardine.

Medicine on Second have enjoyed significant growth in the past 12 months with an increase of 30% in turnover requiring them to add two extra receptionists, two new doctors and pioneer positions ‘treatment room receptionists' and ‘patient liaison officers' who are charged with the important task of ensuring visitors to the reception and treatment room areas are looked after at all times whether it be by being kept informed, refreshed or simply for support.

“Sunshine Coasters seem to be quite prepared to pay for a quality service when it comes to their health. And they really appreciate the extra care and attention we give them during their visit via our growing team of staff and of course all the ‘value adds' we're known for too such as the kids movies on a plasma screen, hot cappuccinos and complimentary biscuits, modern magazines and our big point of difference, our ‘same day policy' whereby patients can call up, and almost always get an appointment the day they call,” Medicine on Second co-partner and practising GP, Dr Roger Morris.

Medicine on Second has also implemented a number of new technologies and innovations in their centrally located practice in Maroochydore since last year. They are to the best of their knowledge the only medical practice on the Sunshine Coast; perhaps even Queensland or Australia who accept requests for appointments online and are currently trialling a real time service.

“Our patients and prospective patients really appreciate the ability to request an appointment 24/7, quickly, easily and discreetly and this is best demonstrated by the growing number of patients who are using the service,” says co-partner and practising GP, Dr Michael Ryan.

The practice has also had a strong focus on community involvement throughout the year having initiated and implemented the Big Play Out series at day cares across the Sunshine Coast where a doctor from Medicine on Second went and talked to children about health awareness and the 2020 Weight Loss Challenge which saw 30 local business men try to lose weight whilst raising awatrness about the health risks associated with male obesity and raising funds for local charities.

“We hope efforts like these see us achieve a good result on the night, but at the end of the day we love what we do and that's what really counts,” says Jardine.

The awards ceremony will be held on Saturday 30 August at the Sebel & Citigate in Brisbane.
