The Causes of Infant Colic

Infant Colic = recurrent episodes of irritability, fussing, or excessive crying lasting for a total of more than 3 hours a day, on more than 3 days a week, for more than 3 weeks.

  • in infant between 2 weeks old and 4 months old

The causes of Infant Colic

  • 65%  Normal variant crying
  • 10%  Parental anxiety
  • 10%  Protein intolerance
  • 5%  Irritable bowel syndrome
  • 5%  Gastro-oesophageal reflux
  • 5%  Other

  • Cow milk protein allergy
  • Carbohydrate/Lactose intolerance
  • GI dysmotility/IBS
