Who Will Be The Sunshine Coast’s Biggest Loser?

24 Jun 2008 8:37 PM - The Creative Collective

In February, 30 local business men took up the challenge to lose 20 kilos in 20 weeks while raising funds for two local charities. The countdown to the final weigh-in is now on!

The event will take place this Thursday at the Sunshine Coast Turf Club in conjunction with the Calcutta Sportsmans Lunch.

At this point in the competition Seven Queensland's Sales Director Hamish Thompson is in the lead losing more than 17 kilos.

But he hasn't won just yet. He's tipped to face stiff competition on weigh-in day from Dudley Farrow (owner/director of an earth moving company) and Shane Matchett (owner/director of a bricklaying firm and investor) who have lost at least 14 and 12 kilos respectively, but anyone could turn up a shadow of their former selves and blow all competition out of the water. The leading contenders say their success is down to eating ‘the right food', getting regular exercise and moderating their booze intake.

All finalists will have a chance to win a range of prizes at the event including sports equipment from Rebel Sport to help maintain their new trimmer physique and a professional make over and photo shoot to have with the families from Flash Fotos.

The real winners of the 20 week challenge though will be the charities. For every kilo of 20kg not lost, participants will pay $100 (i.e. 5 kg not lost = $500). Those who have lost the required weight will still contribute a $200 participation fee. With that in mind, the Berachah Orphanage in Machilipatnam, India and Maggies Dream Catcher who are building a hospital in Dharamsala, India should pocket a comfortable five-figure sum towards their very noble causes as a result.

The 2020 Weight Loss Challenge is the brain child of local doctor, entrepreneur and philanthropist Dr Michael Ryan whose aim is to motivate men to take better care of their health.

The final weigh-in promises to be a light-hearted (and hopefully light-weighted) event and media are welcome to attend.
